BACKGROUND

IT-product distributor Tech Data continued working their SMB client segment by arranging a sales competition in the wake of the previous runaway success with Kickback, the soccer game launched during spring 2004.

CHALLENGE

Houdini were yet again asked to develop a sales competition in the form of an online game that could be played over an extended period of three months, keeping players hooked into the Tech Data e-commerce system. The key was to tie the complexity of the game itself to the value of the orders placed by the customers, so that the game actually awarded bigger and more frequent orders.

RESULT

Houdini built upon the proven formula used in Kickback, where the game mechanics were fully integrated into the Tech Data e-commerce platform. The results were even better than before: more than 30% of the customers who took part in the campaign changed their purchasing behaviour as a direct result of the DiscGolf game, creating a noticeable increase in orders.
